12u NJ Marlins drop high-scoring affair to Jersey Shore Bucks

Eleven hits weren’t enough for the Marlins as it lost a shootout, 9-8 in six innings, to the Jersey Shore Bucks on Sunday in Laurence Harbor.

Robert Kauffman paced the Marlins at the plate. Kauffman went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third and sixth innings.

The top of the first saw Bucks take an early lead, 4-0.

The Marlins matched their one-run first inning with one more in the sixth. In the first, the Marlins scored on an RBI double by Brett Subers, scoring starting pitcher Zach Cannizzo.

The 12U Marlins answered Jersey Shore Bucks’ top inning with six runs of their own in the third. The Marlins scored on an RBI single by Matthew D’Eredita, an RBI single by Joey Famularo, an RBI single by Cannizzo, an RBI single byKauffman, a steal of home by Subers, and an error.

The lead stayed with Jersey Shore Bucks after the fifth, when it scored four runs on three singles.

Cannizzo, making his second appearance of the season, pitched very well and was able to locate pitches on both sides of the plate. He also brought a nice breaking ball with him to the ballpark. Cannizzo went 4 2/3 innings and scattered 10 hits, while only walking 2 and striking out 2 in the loss. The young righty threw 55 for strikes (61%). He also threw strike 1 to 17 of the 28 batters he faced (60%)
