12u Split Games Over Weekend

Saturday 10/13 Recap…

The bats were busy at Michael Tighe Park on Saturday, and when the dust cleared the NJ Marlins had a 22-12 win over the Freehold Fury Red in a four inning mercy.

The teams totaled 21 hits, including three extra base hits.

The Marlins blew out Freehold thanks to 13 hits, including two extra base hits. The Marlins scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Joey Famularo, bases loaded walks to Matt D’Eredita and Zach Cannizzo, an RBI single by Mike Reilly, and another RBI single by Famularo to plate the tenth run.

Tommy Ruscitti got the win in relief for the Marlins. Ruscitti pitched one inning and allowed no runs.

The Marlins pounded Freehold’s pitching, as eight hitters combined for 13 hits, 13 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

The Freehold Fury Red jumped out to an early 6-0 lead in the top of the first. Freehold brought home three runs in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fourth.

It didn’t take long for the Marlins to answer as they scored nine runs of their own in the third. The Marlins scored on a steal of home by Cannizzo, an RBI single by Ricky Govel, a two-run single by Reilly, an RBI single by Marco Bermudez, an error, a walk to Cannizzo, a bases loaded walk, and a wild pitch.

The Marlins showed a lot of discipline at the plate as they drew 14 walks and struck out only 3 times.

Sunday 10/14 Recap……

The Marlins scattered six hits on Sunday, but weren’t able to push enough runs across, and 13-2 loss to the Big Red Machine at Seaview Park in Ocean Twp.

Tommy Ruscitti got on base two times in the game for the Marlins. He singled in the fourth inning. Mike Reilly extended his four-game USABL hitting streak picking up his seventh hit in the last four league games. Nick Alviggi continued to show defensive growth behind the plate as he made number of difficult blocks on some pitches in the dirt.

Bailey Bertot pitched two innings in relief of Ruscitti and struck out two batters and allowed only two hits. Reilly also pitched in relief and also gave up only two hits.

Some defensive lapses hurt the Marlins in the game but the team will look to practice in the coming week to work on their defensive game.
